Everywhere we look nowadays there seems to be evidence that our democracy is broken, from the financial bailouts mostly going to billionaires while the struggling homeowner gets close to nothing, to the healthcare crisis where overwhelming numbers of Americans support a system of universal health care yet no such system is even being seriously discussed and congressmen who support a universal system are in short supply. Even the current representative of this very blue district, does not favor a universal health care system.
Money dominates our politics. When campaign donations are given, there are inevitably strings attached. These strings keep our government in bondage to an agenda which often runs contrary to the wants and desires of the public.
It is common knowledge that it is impossible to run a serious campaign without accepting donations. I would like to challenge this notion. I am running a campaign which rejects all donations and I will reject all donations for as long as I am in office. This puts me at a disadvantage. I cannot take on such a system alone. I need your help. There are simple yet effective things that you can do to help, such as forward my website through email to coworkers, or you could just mention my campaign to a friend. Any help is appreciated.
I would like to show that a candidate can reject all money and still win a congressional seat on a shoe string budget attainable by the average person. As such I will not be running any commercials or be utilizing any other high expense items. My words will not be filtered through PR consultants or focus groups. In such a way, I will provide an example for others on how to run a campaign without money. If others follow my foot steps and are successful in gaining office, then a coalition of like-minded people who reject the politics of big money could be formed on a wide basis to push back against the special interest groups which control our political system. This is a very ambitious goal, but every journey, no matter how long, begins with a single step.
Thank you for your time.
Andy Williams

If people want a different sort of government, then they have to take it. Average people typically do not get involved in politics, leaving the field of play to the big moneyed interests to dominate the national agenda.
